As you play through Elden Ring: Nightreign, you’ll keep unlocking journal chapters revealing bits of backstory for your Nightfarers. After you’ve unlocked enough journal chapters for a particular Nightfarer, you’ll be able to begin a remembrance mission – a personal quest that digs deeper into that Nightfarer’s lore and unlocks a special Relic that modifies their skills. This guide will help you complete the first remembrance mission for Guardian.
How to Start Guardian’s First Remembrance
Interact with the 4th page of Guardian’s journal
Talk to Iron Menial until he gives you a personal objective
Start an expedition with a personal objective
You’ll be able to start your first remembrance mission after collecting 4 journal chapters for Guardian. To do so, simply keep going on expeditions with Guardian. You will generally get the 4th page after defeating your first Nightlord with Guardian.
When you have the 4th chapter unlocked, head to the journal in the Roundtable Hold. Open Guardian’s section and navigate to the 4th page. There, you’ll see a big Begin Remembrance button. Activate it to relive the memory fragment.
When you do, you’ll be placed in a foggy version of the Roundtable Hold. You can still do everything there like you normally would, but the NPCs will be in different spots and have new dialogues. As you spawn in the memory fragment, talk to Raider to start things off. Then, turn around and leave the room you’re in. Just outside you’ll see Iron Menial – the caretaker marionette NPC. Talk to him multiple times to exhaust his lines.
You will learn more about Guardian’s background and his quest to remove a curse from his wing. When you’re done, Iron Menial will give you a personal objective. This objective is something you will need to complete during an expedition, so check your Relics and head for the round table to commence an expedition.
How to Complete Guardian’s First Personal Objective
Navigate to the orange marker on your map
Defeat the Guardian Golem
Finish the expedition – it doesn’t matter if you succeed or fail
When you interact with the round table to start an expedition, you’ll see your personal objective listed to the right of the Nightlord description. For Guardian’s first quest, you will need to defeat a specific Guardian Golem. You can complete this objective in a multiplayer run, but it will probably be easier and quicker in a solo expedition. Your random allies won’t know about your quest and especially as the team’s tank, you won’t want to run off on your own to do your thing, leaving them unprotected. It also doesn’t matter which Nightlord you choose.
When you start your expedition, open your map. Your personal objective will be marked as a glowing orange circle. You will find the Guardian Golem there. Keep in mind – for your quest you will need to defeat this specific Golem. Other Cracked Golems you might randomly encounter in the world will not count.
Because of the game’s randomized nature, your target might spawn in an inconvenient location, preventing you from completing your objective on the first run. If this happens in a solo run, simply leave the game and restart for a better roll.
If the objective spawns close to where you drop, make your way there. If you can defeat some weaker wandering enemies on the way to get a level or two, do it, but do it quick. You don’t want to spend too much time farming and get caught by the Night’s advance. Seeing how this objective can be completed at level 1, getting to it should be your primary goal.
When you reach the marker, you’ll see the Golem on the ground. Unlike regular Golems of this type, it won’t activate when you approach it. Instead, you need to come close and examine the Golem. This will initiate a fight. This quest Golem is stronger than its regular counterparts and if you’re fighting him at level 1, most of his attacks will kill you in one hit.
Good news is the Golem is very slow and has well-telegraphed attacks. All you need to do is lock onto one of his legs and start hitting it with all you’ve got. Eventually, the Golem will get staggered and fall down, allowing you to deal a huge chunk of damage by attacking its exposed underbelly.
If you do fall in battle against the Golem, and this is quite likely at level 1, you will respawn close by, and the Golem will still have all the damage you’ve dealt to it. When you die at level 1, you lose nothing except your Runes, so just keep respawning and hitting the Golem until you defeat it.
When the Golem falls, you’ll get the Stone Stake item. This completes your quest. You don’t actually need to win the expedition to receive your reward. So, if you just want to complete the remembrance, head for the first Night Boss fight, get knocked out there, and you’re done. You’ll get the Stone Stake as a reward either way.
How to Conclude Guardian’s First Remembrance
When you finish your expedition with the Stone Stake in your pocket, you’ll appear in the foggy Roundtable Hold again, as you will still be reliving your remembrance. Make your way to Iron Menial and talk to him. When you do, he’ll share some lore with you and allow you to conclude this trip down memory lane.
To actually conclude a remembrance, you will need to interact with a grey vortex that has appeared in the Roundtable Hold. When you open your map, it will be shown as a wispy grey Grace. You’ll actually find it in the corner right beside Iron Menial. Interacting with the vortex will conclude the remembrance.
Guardian’s First Remembrance Rewards
When you complete the remembrance, you’ll unlock the 5th chapter of Guardian’s journal and get the Stone Stake as a unique Relic. Equipping the Stone Stake will modify Guardian’s Character Skill. Instead of a single gust of wind that deals damage and knocks smaller enemies down, the skill will now create a zone of wind that deals continuous damage to enemies inside it and interrupts their movement.
