Best Solo Character – Elden Ring: Nightreign

Elden Ring: Nightreign is a game designed for teams of three players. This is made apparent by the overall number of enemies and how relentless they are at pursuing their targets. There are also numerous boss fights with multiple boss enemies, adds, and phases where a boss splits into several entities. So, if you decide to play Nightreign solo, you will have a major challenge on your hands. But if you do try to tackle the game alone, this guide will help you get a slight edge over the Night by picking the best solo Nightfarer – Wylder.

Wylder is the game’s tutorial character. Because of that, he’s designed to be decent at any task. This jack-of-all-trades approach is beneficial when you’re playing alone and can have a team of dedicated specialists. Here’s what makes Wylder so good for solo play:

  • Solid attribute scaling
  • Passive Ability prevents death once per encounter
  • Character Skill increases mobility, allowing you to traverse Limveld faster and thus farm more efficiently
  • Ultimate Art simply deals damage and doesn’t rely on allies to maximize its efficiency

When you level up as Wylder, your basic attributes go up. In Nightreign, we don’t get precise numbers for these increases, just their overall scaling. Wylder’s attributes grant him great health and strength, decent stamina and dexterity, and subpar but not totally terrible magic-related abilities. Here’s the complete list:

  • HP – A
  • FP – C
  • Stamina – B
  • Strength – A
  • Dexterity – B
  • Intelligence – C
  • Faith – C
  • Arcane – C

This means Wylder can get some use out of just about any weapon he can find. And if need be, he can use sorceries and incantations too. Such versatility is important when you don’t have any allies. A high baseline level of health is also worth mentioning. Without allies to revive you, you really don’t want to be easy to knock down.

Wylder’s Passive Ability Sixth Sense is underwhelming in group play, to say the least. When you’re doing well – it literally does nothing. And if you do fall, then you have allies to pick you up. When playing solo, Sixth Sense becomes invaluable. Whenever you are about to take lethal damage, Wylder will instead move out of the way with a sliver of health left. This ability recharges after you die outside of a major boss fight, or when you visit a Site of Grace. Having at least some room for error is invaluable when you’re playing solo.

Sixth Sense also works really well with the Wending Grace item that saves you from death once. You can buy it from merchants in Limveld. Wending Grace and Sixth Sense together will give you two chances to survive certain defeat.

From the moment you drop into Limveld, you’re on the clock. You have just two days to become strong enough to challenge the Nightlord. When playing in a group, you get the runes from enemies slain by your allies. When you’re solo, you only get the runes from those enemies you defeat yourself. This puts even more pressure on you to move fast.

Claw Shot, Wylder’s Character Skill, helps you with that. When aimed at the ground, it propels you forward, allowing you to quickly cover the distance between various points of interest faster.

Wylder’s Ultimate Art is very selfish. It’s simply a strong attack that deals a lot of stagger damage. This means you get the full use out of it yourself. A lot of other Ultimate Arts are built around team play and either buff or help your allies in some way. Onslaught Stake just works. And its high stagger can also help you get some much-needed breathing room to heal or reposition.

We hope this guide helped you see what makes Wylder such a good solo character. Other Nightfarers like Executor or Revenant also have their strong suits for solo play, but we felt that Wylder has an edge over them. If you have other suggestions for who can be the best solo character, don’t hesitate to let us know.
