PlayStation Showcase 2021: Every Trailer and Summary

PlayStation had their Showcase today, sharing many trailers for their upcoming games. A lot of announcements made it into the 40 minutes, giving us a look at a wide variety of games, including both proprietary and third-party titles.

Did you miss it? No worries — we put together all of the trailers featured during the stream into a list, just for you (and some summaries of what transpired, in case if you are in a rush!):

Release Date: TBD

Knights of the Old Republic is one of the most popular games in the Star Wars franchise. This teaser is the first time an announcement was made about the game getting a complete remake for the PS5 (that is, it is being completely rebuilt after 20 years).

For now, the only thing the trailer can show us for certain is us facing the greatest Sith in generations and how they must be stopped.

However, we have a few more interesting things to share with you about the game being rebuilt from the ground up, so be sure to check it out!

Release Date: TBD

A newly revealed Hack and Slash game, the trailer for Project Eve shows plenty of gameplay. The narration at the beginning of the trailer suggests that the humanity has fallen from the enemy, but those who remain will devote the rest of their lives to the fight, still.

For gameplay, we can see plenty of areas where EVE will fight the enemy, and do so with the help of the surrounding environment — explosive barrels, for example. We also got to see a few of the abilities she possesses, as well as some formidable enemies, likely to be bosses.

Release Date: March 25, 2022

The trailer for the first-person shooter game opens by stating that the Dragon Lord has returned, and goes straight to showing gameplay.

We get to see numerous enemies that we’ll likely be fighting, while the text in between states that this is a world of metal, magic, and lots of guns. There is also a suggestion that this is a tiny world, as there is a shot of a can of juice (or soda?) that is creating a waterfall, while the narrator seems to be in control of the game’s world.

Release Date: Spring 2022

We got another look at the new RPG by Square Enix, the company famously known for the Final Fantasy series (among many others). The trailer starts with the main character getting transported from what seems like an Earth like ours, into a fantasy world.

We see some gameplay, showing various powers that the female protagonist acquires in the game: we see her blasting water magic, moving large distances quickly, and creating an explosive earth-mine on the ground.

Release Date: January 2022

This trailer for the first-person shooter game teases a new supernatural enemy, saying that it is the greatest threat that Earth has ever known. Who they are fighting exactly is not clearly explained, but the trailer shows off a variety of enemies that will be fought and the weapons being used against them.

Release Date: October 5, 2021

Highly-acclaimed 2012 survival horror game, Alan Wake, is getting a remaster! It will finally be available on PlayStation, for the first time.

The showcase trailer is a montage of clips, revealing some of the story as well as gameplay, as Alan Wake holds on to his flashlight for dear life, trying to survive himself and rescue his wife Alice.

Grand Theft Auto V is getting a remaster, with improved graphics, enhanced gameplay, and seamless character switching being teased. The trailer also confirms that Grand Theft Auto Online will be getting the same kind of treatment.

Release Date: 2022

Ghostwire Tokyo is a first-person action RPG game. The trailer shows a devastating supernatural infection rampaging through Tokyo, mutating everything in its wake without mercy even for the game’s young protagonist.

With a spectral entity taking host inside his body, he is overflowing with power out of this world and ready to face abominations swarming in the ruins of the metropolis. Throwing himself right into the face of danger without regard for his own body, he is driven to protect his beloved.

Release Date: October 26, 2021

The trailer for the much-awaited title was more focused on the story, with the exposition that Peter Quill tried to get himself out of by pretending to have a heart attack.

If you are a fan of the series, you will probably enjoy the tone of this trailer, featuring Cosmo the Dog and the team trying to figure out what they can do to stop the Church of Truth and their plans. The trailer isn’t completely without gameplay, however, as we see some space combat footage, and some of the main third-person shooter action.

Release Date: 2021

Vampire Blood Hunt is a battle royal game, with the trailer demonstrating the game’s central characters and their unique specialties. We can see Toreador, who uses her katana to get right into the face of her opponents, Nosferatu, who can snipe and transport himself however close or far he wishes, and Brujah, who can jump right into the middle of action and either cut all of those enemies down or blast through them with a shotgun.

Release Date: September 14, 2021

Within the trailer for this upcoming action-adventure game by Arkane Studios we hear about the eight visionaries, Colt’s primary targets that he must eliminate in 24 hours to break the mysterious timeloop he got trapped inside with his fellow rival assassin. The trailer teases the story, with Colt wondering how and why he got to the island of Blackreef and trying to figure out who is the person giving him hints.

Release Date: November 2021

Interestingly enough, this is not a game trailer. The only one of its kind we got during the showcase. Instead, this is a teaser for a reissue of the Radiohead albums “Kid A” and “Amnesiac”, which they are working on in collaboration with Epic Games.

Release Day: TDB

The trailer for the indie adventure game starts off showing a music mini-game. The trailer then shows us a lot of the exploration in the game, where the main character is able to take control of the various animals on the island, helping her discover new places and unlock treasures. The second half of the trailer focuses on the story: in particular, your task to find someone by the name of Meavora, but warns that he has evil in his heart.

Release Day: Early 2022

We got confirmation today that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy are being made for the PS5 and PC. The trailer then goes ahead to show various scenes from both games, promising that the joining players can “relive the adventure.”

Release Day: TBD

We got an announcement for a new Marvel game, and X-Men fans will be delighted to know that this one is featuring Wolverine.

The teaser shows Logan in a bar after what looks like to have been quite a big fight. In fact, he is the only man standing amidst his knocked-out opponents. Well, almost. One of the guys stands up and tries to approach him, upon which Wolverine bares his claws.

The new trailer for the racing game shows us a line-up of cars, along with some of the features. We get to see some of the car customization available, a photo mode with many backgrounds and customization options, and a few of the tracks you can race on. After that we get some exciting glimpses of the gameplay right from the driver’s seat.

Release Day: 2023

We finally get our first look at the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man! In the teaser, we see both Peter Parker and Miles Morales teaming up to take down criminals, while what sounds like Kraven the Hunter narrates the events, asking if someone can finally give him what he desires. We get to hear Venom’s voice answer with a “yes, we will,” as he reveals his face.

Release Day: 2022

Certainly one of the highlights of the showcase was the impressive trailer of the PS4 God of War sequel. Now older, Atreus warns his father that time is running out, that the war and Ragnarok is coming upon them. The boy is eager to get out there and finally get some answers, but Kratos is worried that these kinds of answers will lead to a war with Asgard’s gods.

Perhaps some help can be recruited from Tyr, the Norse God of War… after all, if he really is dead, why does Odin bother to hide him? We get many glimpses of the gameplay, new environments, and new formidable creatures: it’s interesting to see Kratos using all of his weapons from the previous game, yet both him and Atreus using new abilities. Oh, and there’s more we learned in regards to the characters and their story — if you are interested, make sure to check out our discussion on it!

I'm a huge gamer who especially loves the Final Fantasy series. I will play just about any game, especially if it has anything resembling a Dragoon.
