There are many different locations found throughout Limveld in Elden Ring: Nightreign, and many of them will be guarded by a Location Boss. Given that these are the toughest enemies and stalwart guards of these Locations, it can be good to know what you’re up against. Which is why we’ve made this guide, so that you can determine what Location Bosses are likely to be at any given place, what rewards they are likely to give, and how challenging they will be.
What Are Location Bosses
Location Bosses are, as the name implies, bosses that are tied to specific locations. Each Location with bosses (which includes the Castle Interior, Ruins, Main Encampments, Great Churches, and Forts) will always have a boss somewhere within. The Location type will determine both the kinds of Dormant Powers that the boss will drop, and roughly how many Runes it will award upon defeat.
Many Locations also have Affinities, which determine both what bosses will be available at that location (each Affinity of each Location has it’s own boss list), and what kind of Affinities the Armaments that drop from that boss’s Dormant Powers will have. For instance, a Ruins Location with a Sleep Affinity will always have a Runebear, and that Runebear will always drop Armaments that have Sleep Affinity effects.
Location Bosses are different from Evergaol Bosses and Shifting Earth Bosses, and you should see our guides on them to know more about them.
What Rewards do Location Bosses Have
There are 3 different “tiers” of Location Boss, each dropping more runes and higher-quality Dormant Powers upon defeat.
Forts and Great Churches have the simplest bosses. They are worth between 3200 and 7200 and always drop Dormant Power containing 2x Blue+ Armaments.
You should often start an Expedition on the first day by clearing out Forts and Great Churches, especially if they happen to have Affinities that are Effective against the Night Lord.
Main Encampments and Ruins have difficult, often time-consuming bosses, but they are not unmanageable. They are worth between 7200 and 16800 and always drop Dormant Power containing 2x Blue+ Armaments and 1x Blue+ Upgrade.
You should be able to start challenging and defeating bosses at Main Encampments and Ruins by the end of the first day, and should prioritize those with Affinities that are Effective against the Night Lord.
Castle Interior Bosses are some of the toughest bosses in the game, often rivalling Night Bosses, and are only found in the Castle Interior, and only one spawns per Expedition (and does not get replaced or replenished on the 2nd day). These very tough bosses award between 25000 and 60000 , drop Dormant Powers that contain 2x Purple+ Armaments and 1x Purple+ Upgrade, and guard the path the Castle chest that drops a Dormant Power with 3x Blue+ Talismans.
Because of their high difficulty and excellent loot, you should try to tackle the Castle Interior boss on the second day of any given Expedition.
All Location Bosses in Elden Ring: Nightreign
Below is the list of all Location. Bosses in the game. In addition to noting the Affinities they possess and the Runes and Dormant Powers they drop, we’ve also made note of the “Effort” it takes to defeat them; this estimation should give you an idea of how difficult they are as a boss and of roughly how long it will take to defeat them, relative to other Bosses. Even a very skilled, high level party might take a while to defeat a Hard boss, while a Trivial boss should be a pushover even for relatively new players early on.
