The Sea’s Wrath Witch’s Staff Build – Hades II

As the Witch’s Staff is Melinoë’s initial weapon, you would be forgiven for thinking that it isn’t great. However, when paired with Poseidon, this weapon can be incredibly powerful, dealing so much damage that even Chronos himself can hardly withstand you. The best part: this is a really simple build to make and execute. In this guide, we will go through how to make a build to drown your enemies at a safe distance, and completely wipe out entire rooms and bosses alike!

  • This build will primarily focus around the Witch’s Staff’s Special attack — you will be using this attack almost exclusively.
  • Your Cast will be useful as well, as it can gather enemies, inflict Curses, and even deal extra damage depending on what Boons you end up using.
  • You can ignore your Attack, Omega Attack, and Omega Special entirely. This makes the build extremely Magick-efficient.

As of the Early Access Patch 2, the Aspect you choose won’t really matter for this build. (Originally, we would have recommended the Aspect of Momus.)

All three Aspects focus on enhancing your Omega moves one way or another now, so since this build mainly focuses on the base Special, your Aspect won’t make much of a difference. If you want to implement the Omega Special without interrupting your attacks too much, you can still take the Aspect of Momus so that it will auto-cast them after the initial cast.

  • The most important Arcana Card to activate will be The Huntress, to greatly boost the damage of your Specials.
  • If you plan on adding a Curse to your Casts, you can take Origination to further boost your damage, while Night can boost your Omega Cast damage further.
  • The Champions, meanwhile, can help you get the Boons you want quicker.
  • After that, you can activate stuff like The Wayward Son, The Furies, The Titan, Eternity, The Fates, The Boatman, or Excellence, depending on if you want to focus more on survivability or utility.

The god you will want to focus on the most for this build is Poseidon.

In particular, you will want to get the Wave Flourish Boon as soon as possible — it will cause your Specials to create a splash that deals extra damage to enemies, and knocks other foes back (though the knockback isn’t utilized that much for this build).

Once you have that Boon, there are a few others that you will want to get:

  • Slippery Slope – causes your splashes to inflict Slip, which causes afflicted enemies to take more damage.
  • Fluid Gain – will give you an easy source of Magick regen, since you’ll be spamming your special a lot. On top of this, it will help unlock the Legendary Boon.
  • King Tide – makes your splash effects deal bonus damage to Guardians, making this build much more effective against them.

You can grab Hydraulic Might for a damage boost early in each encounter.

The highest priority for this build will be Dual Moonshot. This will cause your Special to fire 2 projectiles instead of 1, effectively doubling your damage. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that they will have reduced range, so you will have to get closer to your enemies once you pick it up.

After this, you can choose between Rapid Moonfire and Shimmering Moonshot.

Rapid Moonfire will give your Special some extra damage and make them faster. On the other hand, Shimmering Moonshot will make your Special bounce between enemies twice, with the damage increasing on each bounce.

Here are a few other gods you can focus on that will pair well with Poseidon’s Boons for this build, allowing you to deal extra damage, put on another Curse or two, or even both!

  • ZeusLightning Lance, Storm Ring, Static Shock, Double Strike, Divine Vengeance
    • In terms of pure damage, Zeus probably compliments this build better than any other god.
    • Static Shock, Storm Ring, and Divine Vengeance will bombard enemies with lightning bolts while you spam your attacks, and Lightning Lance will turn your Cast into a projectile.
    • You can also grab the Killer Current Duo Boon, causing all of the lightning effects to deal even more damage to enemies with Slip.
  • HestiaSmolder Ring, Glowing Coal, Flammable Coating, Natural Gas, Soot Sprint, Pyro Technique
    • Fire and water surprisingly work together pretty well for this build, with Hestia making your Cast a great extra source of damage.
    • Smolder Ring will allow your Cast to inflict Scorch on enemies, and Glow Coal can turn it into a ranged attack.
    • On top of that, Natural Gas will help deal even more damage to groups that get caught up in the Cast.
    • You can additionally take the Scalding Vapor Duo Boon to increase damage even further.

And here are some notable Boons for the gods that will show up randomly or will appear in every single run:

  • If you happen to find Artemis in your run, Support Fire will give you a lot of extra damage, as your Special will be landing a lot.
  • From Hermes, you can go for Nimble Limbs and Mean Strike to further enhance Specials.
  • Any Hex you choose to bring will work, though Night Bloom and Moon Water will be the least disruptive to your Special spamming.
  • Finally, you will want to try getting Boons from Chaos when possible, and aim for one with Flourish in order to further increase your damage.

You will always want to start your runs with the Vivid Sea, so that you can ensure you get Wave Flourish and other Poseidon Boons as soon as possible.

After the first or second boss, you can switch to the Keepsake of another god you want to pair up with. Once you’re comfortable with your Boon setup, you can use Discordant Bell to further increase your damage, or Luckier Tooth if you want a little more survivability.

While this build is pretty simple to make, it can be quite deadly. Take advantage of the sea and drown any enemy that gets in your way!
