For some time fans have been waiting for Ubisoft to release a gameplay trailer for Far Cry 6, the latest installment in the hit series. Unfortunately, they have not released it yet. Fortunately, they announced that they will release it in two days, on May 28th at 9:30 AM Pacific Daylight Time.
Though Ubisoft has delayed this release for some time and instead preferred its fans to get excited over hints of the game’s story and tie-in merchandise, it is very good news for anyone excited about the Far Cry series who wants to get the first real look at the upcoming game.
The announcement for what is more or less an announcement of the game’s features came in a form not too surprising for those who have been watching the game’s media so far. A short trailer focusing on the game’s story and themes, entirely bereft of any details about the game itself.
Even Ubisoft was tired of seeing Anton’s face.
But American fans might be out of luck. The details are coming in a livestream at 9:30 Pacific Daylight time, when most of us would have been at work for some time, or just getting there. It’s great for European gamers, however, who will be able to unwind after a long day watching the stream.
Nevertheless many viewers were pumped. One, a YouTube user called Rohan Kulshrestha posted “Awesome awesome freaking awesome finally farcry 6 I’m so excited.”
But reactions were not universally positive. One user, named Lieutenant Router post “I forgot this game was happening” while a third user called Bikram Agarwal asked “Will it be a real ‘gameplay reveal’ or the usual ‘6 minutes of cutscenes, with a few seconds of gameplay here n there’?”
Given that before now there was little evidence that Far Cry 6 existed we can only hope Ubisoft continues to build hype through careful releases like this and, more importantly, delivers on the hype they create.
But am I spinning fake yarns?
But it is equally possible that they will continue as they have, and the game will release at its unknown and appointed time without fanfare or recognition.
Regardless of what they do, we’ll continue relay and commentate on the precious little that is known.
But what do you think? Will Far Cry 6 be amazing? Do you think the gameplay will be great, but think the story won’t be much – or the other way around? What about this reveal – was it the right move for Ubisoft? Let us know in the comments below, or join us on our Discord server!
