Space Ops gives off just the right amount of gameplay experience that will have you wanting to kill more and more alien foes. While Space Ops may be a new release at the time of this review, the mapping of the game doesn't stand out too much as of yet to bring me back with others. But the devs over at DevCubeStudio seem to have promise when it comes to updating Space Ops in the coming weeks to ensure everyone gets the VR experience they deserve.
Experience the future of space warfare in Space Ops VR. A first-person space shooter developed by DevCubeStudio. Being their first game release, DevCubeStudio touches on a VR category that we see more of recently. While first-person shooters may be a big hit in the non-vr gaming world, VR shooters still have a little ways to go when it comes to getting that full player movement while running around tacking down all your foes in sight. Space Ops has some great features when it comes to making sure the player knows when they’ve gotten shot, and places you in the shoes of the space marine to take down aliens trying to take over your space station. DevCubeStudio arrives with a great VR shooter that you can play with your friends or rank up the leaderboards in singleplayer mode.
Making an in-depth shooter for VR at this time can be tough. Trying to get the player to feel as though they’re in full control over what happens in the world may be easy, but ensuring the player can move around freely and feel as though they’re part of the story is the endgame. DevCubStudio got this part right when it comes to Space Ops.
Being a space marine protecting your home base from aliens that have landed nearby to take over, your job is to stand your ground and ensure power is stored and the enemy foes don’t take out your power grids. While the story may seem a little dry at first, Space Ops still brings the right amount of gameplay and quick story to get you in the shoes of the space marine just trying to protect the space station.
Gameplay
With the gameplay being the first thing you look for in any game to ensure you stick to playing it in the future, Space Ops comes at us with a tremendous fast-paced start to protected your area and little mini side missions to ensure the alien foes don’t destroy your power. While playing singleplayer shooters as Space Ops may be fun at first, the devs over at DevCubStudio added co-op to the game to ensure you can play through the waves of aliens with your friends or go through a friendly leaderboard challenge with others. Fighting off waves of different type of aliens that include giant spiders, and floating gross, but exciting eyeballs is just the start of the shooting experience that Space Ops will give you during your game time with yourself and others.
Graphics & Sound
The look and sound of VR games haven’t improved too much as of late that would make you feel more involved with the game at hand. With Space Ops being any old regular VR shooter, it stills comes at us with just the right looks to understand what you’re fighting against. While the overall background of the world may not stand out right away, during your game time, you’ll find yourself noticing the gore that comes out of each of the alien foes when they come your way.
The sound effects being in the same ballpark, the background sounds don’t make a big difference in your gaming experience in Space Ops. But as long as you’re able to point and click towards the foe that it is coming your way, sounds and looks don’t make too much of a difference in this VR first-person shooter.
