Steam To Release a “Remote Play Together” Feature Soon

Steam recently just announced their plans for the “Remote Play Together” feature. This feature will let you play usual couch co-op games with friends in the comfort of your home despite being miles away from them, “as though they were in the same room.” The feature was first revealed by valve on the Steamworks website before its existence fully confirmed by PcGamer.

The similar feature had previously only worked with devices on the same network. This changes with Remote Play Together, as not only would you be able to play with different networks, there will also be a range of compatible games to choose from, as “All local multiplayer, local co-op and split-screen games will be automatically included in the Remote Play Together beta.”

Users will be able to launch a local multiplayer or co-operative game, and using the Steam Overlay, invite a friend to join and play split screen style with them. Up to four players will be able to play with one another using the feature.

Performance wise, Valve says it “renders 60 frames per second at a resolution of 1080p,” that is, if you have a solid internet connection. It seems the main focuses of the feature is to bring about a form of couch co-op to the PC platform similar to PlayStation’s game share option. It’s an interesting and very useful feature, and i can’t wait to test it out with the lads.
