Slay the Spire Indie Shout Out

In this week’s Indie Shout Out we take a look at Slay the Spire, a roguelike, card-collecting, spire climbing, big bad defeating strategy game for PC, Mac, and Linux developed by Mega Crit Games.

In Slay the Spire, you start by nominating one of two heroes to traverse the spire. Each hero has their own deck of cards that you’ll use to make the dangerous and potentially fatal ascent towards the top of the tower. Some cards will attack your opponents; some cards will help protect you from enemy attacks, while some will have special effects like poisoning enemies or letting you draw more cards.

The Spire is divided into several locations that you’ll fight your way through. Some of these squares have monsters guarding them, some have treasure chests, some have merchants and some will hold rare and magical items called Relics, though this magical power will undoubtedly assist you, it doesn’t always come without a price.

The layout of the Spire is generated randomly each time you climb it, so don’t expect the same layout twice. Do you go for the easy trip with less reward or do you throw yourself into the powerful encounters hoping for an equally powerful reward? The choice is yours, though even the easiest route is fraught with peril.
