Now, we have all been there: doing our very best to stay focused on what we are…oh, something shiny! Sorry, where was I? Yes, staying focused and on mission. But, in a game like Rise of the Tomb Raider, there are far too many distractions (and in some cases shiny ones). Here are 6 things we like to do in Rise of the Tomb Raider instead of actually doing the main mission.
Hunting for all the secrets
If you are a hardcore gamer, you will relate to this one the most. Every time I play a game like this, I promise myself I will go back and find them all later. Until I get distracted by one thing and end up spending over an hour trying to find the rest. There are many ways this can happen in Rise of the Tomb Raider. There are challenges, relics, documents and other such hidden items. I mean they glow for a reason right? I might as well waste my time finding them all while the bad guy gets away with destroying the world. It’s fine because look what I found! A 400 year old pot, what a score!
Killing innocent animals
I know. I am a horrible person. But, if you deny that you do it then you are worse. It is just too easy to kill a deer or a rabbit or a bird because I need its parts to upgrade my bow. And, once my bow is upgraded, I can kill more innocent animals. Its a win all round I say!
Destroying nature
Is it so wrong that I need to take all these herbs and snap every branch off this tree? I might need to make some bandages or some arrows so I can go around killing animals. Don’t judge me! Aside from the fact that I do need to upgrade my weapons and make ammo on-the-move, it glows. Games shouldn’t be allowed to have glowing items if they didn’t want us to get distracted, that’s all I’m saying.
Climbing on everything to promptly fall off it
We’ve all been there. Climbing up a tall structure to find the quickest way down is not the safest. No? Just me? Well, either way, part of the integral gameplay of Rise of the Tomb Raider is to climb onto, hang from or slide off of everything. Unfortunately, I am still a ‘tomb-raider-in training’ who doesn’t understand that if you climb up to a really high place, you shouldn’t be trying to jump off it. Unless you are an assassin, I wouldn’t recommend this approach. And, even then, I would always make sure there is a pile of hay near by for a safe landing.
Looting every cave, crypt and tomb
Let’s be honest, it says it all in the job title really. I am not a hero or saviour of the people. I am a tomb raider. I raid tombs, steal…I mean, discover precious relics and learn about the entire history of a region. At no point was it stated that I would have to stop an entire army, basically, on my own. So, I if you need me I will be over in this crypt looting the gold from these dead people. Okay?
Shooting and breaking everything
Aside from the obvious animal slaughter, you can’t really call yourself a tomb raider unless you have tried to shoot everything. Why? To see if it gives me any more loot or opens up a secret or gives me an achievement of course. And, it doesn’t matter what it is. A chest, an ancient tomb, lamps, computers. You name it, I’ve probably shot it or broken it at some point. And, if I haven’t, I’ll just go back later with some explosives.
So, intrepid tomb raiders, if you were perhaps wondering what it takes to be a true raider this is it. Forget all that “main mission” non-sense, this is where the real fun is. And don’t forget, if it moves, shoot it. If it doesn’t move, hit it anyway you might get some loot out of it.

I've always had a passion for games and, since I found my passion for writing, I wanted to write about them. I'll play just about anything if I can get my hands on it. I have an unhealthy obsession with all things Star Wars and my motto is "Never apologise for being a nerd."
