Guns for Hire in Far Cry 5 are NPC companions that fight along side of you. They provide many benefits and can be utilized in different ways such as stealth attacks or pinpointing enemy locations.

Specialist Abilities
Each companion has two abilities available to them as listed below. The abilities are related to their specialty, so the companion you decide to use will generally be influenced by your current play style (e.g. stealthy with a compound bow vs Leeroy Jenkins with an attack helicopter).

Heat Seeker: RPGs will track air and land vehicles.

Concealment: Enemies will have a harder time detecting her.
Feral Friendly: Wild animals see her as one of their own.

Pounce: Will silently takedown and enemy.
Stalk: Will stay hidden when moving through tall grass.

Fire It Up: Attacks will have an extra spark to it.
Shatterproof: Resistant to most explosions and impacts.

Call a Chopper: Will provide air support and deliver a helicopter.
Less Reload: Gun + Big Magazine = More Shooting.
Fighters
In addition to the specialist guns for hire listed above there are also non-specialists that you can hire that are located all around Hope County. These are generally resistance fighters that don’t have any specialty and have two abilities available to them from a list.
Once you hire them they are assigned in your Roster below the specialists as an option for you to select.
Fighter Abilities
Abilities for non-specialist companions are locked at the beginning and will unlock as they get more kills. The first ability will unlock after 5 kills and the second ability will unlock after 12 kills.

Will grab plant life when not in combat.

Will allow you to carry more ammo.

Shotgun blasts might start a fire.
Intimidator
Will lay down fire that scares the enemy.
Mechanic
Will repair the vehicle you drive.
No Tracks
Will make you untrackable in tall grass.
Power Hitter
Melee attacks might send enemies flying.
Quick Recovery
Will take less time to recover health.
Recycler
Will hand over recovered ammo after some kills.
Sharpshooter
Will snipe less often but be deadlier.
Spotter
Will tag enemies at the start of combat.
Thick Skin
Will be more resilient to damage.
Veterinarian
Will revive fangs for hire.
Vulture
Will find extra stuff when looting a body.
