CES 2017 came and went in a flash. There were some awesome new things that are coming out for gamers this year. Some seemed rather impractical. Others were simply concepts and most likely won’t be made. And some, were down right silly expensive for what you seemed to get. Regardless, I did manage to find some gamers related tech that I wanted to share with you all. Since I couldn’t decide, on my favourite, I made a top 5 gaming gadgets list of the ones I thought were the coolest.
5. Taclim VR System
With VR technology really starting to take off, this is one for the VR gamers. The Taclim VR system adds shoes and gloves into the mix. The shoes, which look like sandals from the 70s, are built with haptic feedback for immersive gameplay. Essentially, they are supposed to make it feel like you are walking on different surfaces. It will be interesting to see how the horror genre picks up on this. Could you imagine feeling like you are actually walking on human bones? The gloves are not anything that we haven’t seen before, but they are meant to feel less like you are holding a controller. All of this to add to the immersion of VR gaming.
4. Super Retro Boy
Now, this is one for the retro gamers. If you missed the old “Nintendo Gameboy”, then the Super Retro Boy is bringing this classic back. Retro-bit have tried to keep the same look and feel of the classic handheld but also making it their own. And, by the looks of things, it is supposed to play Gameboy games. It is nice to see new tech recapturing the magic of the classics in gaming.
3. Sony Bravia OLED A1E
So, this is one looks very sleek and impressive. Although this is a TV and not solely for the gaming market, I think gamers can appreciate this one all the same. It has a very slim design and a proper full screen. There are no silly side buttons or speakers to take away from the view. However, Sony thought up a solution for the sound by having it come out of the back by using acoustics to bounce the sound around. Although it is highly expensive, it is still one of the coolest TVs I have seen in a long time.
2. Razor Project Valerie
Perhaps a little bit more impractical is the new project from Razor. This is a new gaming laptop which isn’t in itself, all that impressive. However, this 17″ screen beast, also comes with two extra 17″ screens. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is the world’s first triple display laptop. Now, practicality wise, you probably wouldn’t want to lug this thing around with you. You can use just the one screen if you wanted. The other thing that struck me was how close you are to the screens. One 17″ screen is big enough, but adding two more into the mix so close to your vision may not be so practical either. Still, it is the first of its kind and is very cool to look at nonetheless.
1. Acer Predator 21X
The number one spot is taken by the new gaming laptop by Acer: the Predator 21X. You may have seen this one and, to be honest, it would be quite heard to miss. This beast of a machine has twin GTX 1080 graphics cards. It has enough storage space for an ample Steam library and a friends’. It boasts a 21:9 curved display; a reversible number pad and touch pad combined and an SD slot. Weighing in at around 8kg, it is not a portable device to say the least. However, it is nice to see a gaming laptop that looks like it could handle a lot of rigorous gaming.
It is very expensive too. Coming in at around $9,000+, perhaps this is one to put on your wishlist for when you are a millionaire? I still think this is the coolest thing to come out of CES 2017 in terms of gaming though, and it would be great to see more like this.
So, those were the top 5 gaming gadgets that I thought were the most impressive. Although there was a plethora of other tech that was just as impressive or imaginative, these stood out to me the most. It will be good to see what comes of most of these gadgets by the time the next CES comes around.

I've always had a passion for games and, since I found my passion for writing, I wanted to write about them. I'll play just about anything if I can get my hands on it. I have an unhealthy obsession with all things Star Wars and my motto is "Never apologise for being a nerd."
