How to Get the Ergo Sum Exotic Sword – Destiny 2: The Final Shape

One of the best parts of the new Destiny 2 expansion, The Final Shape, is that the rewards feel worth it. One reward that you will have to acquire after finishing The Finals Shape’s campaign is the Ergo Sum Exotic sword. It is extremely unique, even among the many exotic weapons, because it comes with a random selection of exotic perks and it is a sword in the special slot. Let’s go over how you can unlock this potent weapon.

Note: This guide contains contextual spoilers for The Final Shape expansion.

As mentioned above, the Ergo Sum exotic sword can only be obtained after completing The Final Shape’s campaign.

To be more specific, players will have to reach quest step 29 on the quest The Final Shape (image 1). At this point, they will receive a mission called Destined Heroes (image 2), which is the quest that rewards the Ergo Sum sword.

When you finish the campaign, you will automatically be back at the Lost City, or the social hub of the Pale Heart.

You will have to speak to your ghost to acquire rewards for finishing the campaign, then the ghost will immediately give you the quest for the Ergo Sum sword (Image 3), the Destined Heroes.

With the quest in hand, you can just follow the steps, which we’ll go through below.

  • Tune into the radio communication (right next to ghost at the camp)
    • If you’re playing with other people, you’ll want to make sure that everyone interacts with the radio after speaking with ghost. If they don’t, they might not receive progression.
  • Do the quest, Queens Part 1
  • Speak to Ghost and get two more quests (image 4)

  • Complete both of the quests: “Lost in the Light” and “Found in the Dark”
  • Return to Ghost and get the Dyadic Prism
  • Travel to the Sacrarium and get the sword (image 5)

Longtime Destiny 2 players will have actually seen this sword before — we saw it at our own grave when doing the exotic quest for the Bastion fusion rifle. Now that it is in our possession, it would seem we are that much closer to our grave (Image 6).

It’s also the only sword that is in the special slot, and what makes it even more powerful is the fact that it can come with multiple different exotic perks (Image 7). Furthermore, it can be aligned to different types of elements. This makes the sword feel unique to each player that gets it, and better suited for certain builds.

Due to these unique characteristics, it would be a shame if players were stuck with only the first sword they obtained. Luckily, there are two different ways to get more rolls of the Ergo Sum sword. That means you can keep trying for the perfect Ergo Sum that suits your character or build best.

There are currently two different pathfinder nodes in Destiny 2. One for the Vanguard, which can be found in the Vanguard node from the Director, and the Pale Heart Pathfinder.

The pathfinder for the Pale Heart can be accessed from the Director when browsing the map for the Pale Heart (Image 8). The first two times you finish it, you will be rewarded with an Ergo Sum sword.

This is a rotating activity that goes to different areas in the Pale Hart (Image 10). It can be a good way to finish specific parts of the Paleheart Pathfinder, if you need to do something in a specific area. Its rewards are the Ergo Sum sword, and a chance for a Deepsight Weapon (part of a pattern to craft a weapon).
