Dragon Age: The Veilguard Launch Trailer Teases Grim Events, Darkspawn, Ancient Elven Gods

Ahead of its release, EA revealed a final trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This one adds to the cinematic lineup available on the official channel, but promises to be a mix of “gameplay and in-game cinematics”. The Official Launch Trailer is also a bit more concrete about the events in the story, focusing on the aftermath of Solas’s interrupted ritual, what powerful beings and monsters make it out of The Fade, and what it could mean for Rook and their Companions.

Launch Trailer

The trailer quickly sets the tone for the rest of the trailer, showing monsters coming out of the Fade, and mentioning that a couple of ancient Elven gods have escaped — these two, in particular, being “horrific tyrants”. There are plenty of shots throughout of darkspawn and long-dormant artifacts now attacking armies and your group. We even get a tease of a boss, a dragon that has been “feeding on the Blight” (quite likely an Archdemon).

The significance of this is the hint of us getting involved with a proper darkspawn plotline once again, which calls to the main conflict of the first installation of the series, Dragon Age: Origins, universally loved by the fanbase. Of course, this also means a high bar of expectations that will have to be met for the veteran players.

Companions are shown during the trailer but only make brief appearances. Taash and Lace in particular seem to be in great danger during their appearances, of the degree we would see at the climax of the plot in previous installments, while others like Emmrich are shown responding to the sheer chaos rising around them. Solas adds to the grave tone by observing, “It will not be easy. But you are this world’s only hope.”

The fandom, surprisingly, seems to be taking well to the new trailer as well! The video got 126,000 views and 13,000 likes within the first 6 hours of releasing, with many people commenting on how great this one looks, and how much they can’t wait to finally get their hands on this game after the long wait since Inquisition. Considering the mixed reactions surrounding the game’s new artstyle and gameplay lately, these responses are certainly great to see.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is coming out on October 31, so we don’t have to wait much longer to play this game and help decide the fate of Thedas!

I'm a huge gamer who especially loves the Final Fantasy series. I will play just about any game, especially if it has anything resembling a Dragoon.
