Dragon Age: The Veilguard Is Live! What to Do While Waiting For Download to Finish?

Well, dear gamers, the ancient Gods are upon us! Old Gods corrupted by Darkspawn or Elven Gods released from the Fade? The Veilguard decided, “why not both”? And thus the world has been plunged into chaos, and now you are its only hope — the work of destined heroes never ends!

… well, after that download finishes, anyway.

Ready to dive in? Here is where you can get your copy to play right away:

Alternatively, for $5.99/mo, you could also snatch yourself EA Play and get 10% off, or get the game along with the $16.99/mo EA Play Pro subscription via the EA App! If you don’t mind the subscription, this promotion is the cheapest way to play the game that is currently available.

Note that the only differences between the Standard and Deluxe additions are Armor and Weapon appearances, so they are all cosmetics.

Now that we can certainly help you with! Have 30 minutes to kill, but too hype for the game to focus on anything else?

Okay, yeah, if you start on a Wiki dive right now, maybe there is a chance you won’t get stuck on Zevran’s dialogue lines page for the entire download duration when you merely wanted to see what you remember about your Origins companions.

Braska.

That being said, there are a plenty of excellent overview resources out there to prevent you from getting stuck in this manner, including Ghil Dirthalen‘s excellent playlist on Dragon Age Recapped! Perhaps you will even be done with enough time to pour yourself a soda and…

Do you already know which Faction and Class you are most interested in? We happen to have guides like Which Faction Should I Pick? and What Class Should I Pick? to help you decide!

Combat in The Veilguard has been changed a bit from the previous installments, and there is quite a bit to it — you can no longer control companions directly, but be prepared to become an expert of your own party’s most effective status effect and skill combinations.

We highly recommend you check out our extensive Combat Guide if you have a spare moment, just to get an overview of all these basics. While you are at it, you might want a deeper dive into Abilities & Ultimates, where we also cover the whole Primer & Detonator system. Oh, by the way, Abilities are different from other skills you can pick from! Take a look at our Skill Tree Guide to see how.

Of course, you don’t expect your build to stop at the skills, do you? Take a look at our Builds Guide to see how your skills, companions, equipment, runes, and other elements can come together to form your combat gameplay.

Okay, uh-h… so, what is a good name for a Veil Jumper, then…? Maybe you can speak Grey Warden names, sure, we played enough of those, but what kind of a person would go well with The Mourn Watch…? Sure, those necromancers have picked you up as an infant from a tomb, according to that background story blurb, but you still want your character to sound, like, right. You know?

Care to check out our Dragon Age Name Generator for some inspiration? We gathered a whole bunch of those from lore, in-game characters, and impressive community projects, but we also give you some suggestions for those right vibes for each faction. Even if you disagree (we don’t judge!), it could give you some interesting ideas.

Okay, overachiever/unlucky soul stricken by slow internet connection — done with our suggestions already? Then leave us a comment! What are you excited about? What bits of the game still make you feel apprehensive? Got some suggestions for the rest of us camping the download? We would love to hear from you!
