Welcome to the Dragon Age Name Generator! While all of the names are fully compatible with all installments of Dragon Age series (Origins, II, and Inquisition), we specifically updated it with The Veilguard in mind.
If you were looking for something with a more interesting sound than “Rook Thorne of Grey Wardens”, we got you covered. Whether you are working on a Qunari necromancer, a deadly Antivan Dwarf assassin, or a trained Veil Jumper Elf, you’ve come to the right place. Veilguard Faction Name Ideas
Last Name: Thorne
Associated Specialization: Champion
Name Ideas: Alaric (Male Human), Gavros (Male Human), Haldor (Male Dwarf), Einar (Male Dwarf), Grimthra (Female Dwarf), Vigra (Female Dwarf), Ulla (Female Human), Fiona (Female), Nehna (Female Elf), Adhlean (Male Elf), Swift (Nickname), Iron (Nickname)
Grey Wardens come from all walks of life. If you played through Dragon Age: Origins, you know how suddenly you could find yourself recruited to this respectable order. Was your character a high-ranking noble whose life got turned upside down? Were you a nobody yearning for an honorable cause to dedicate yourself to? As long as you can hear a brave soul dedicated to the struggle against darkspawn behind that name, any background should do. Note that the associated specialization of Grey Wardens is a Champion Warrior.
A little note, though — until recently, it has been unheard of for a Qunari to join the order (bit of a complicated history there, if you are an old fan to the series), but there should be no reason a Tal-Vashoth, a former member of the Qun, wouldn’t be able to dedicate their life to the honorable cause. In fact, that’s pretty cool; make it happen!
Last Name: Aldwir
Associated Specialization: Veil Ranger
Name Ideas: Elira (Female Elf), Velaris (Male Elf), Thyra (Female Human), Nythera (Female Elf), Aric (Male Human), Jorik (Male Dwarf), Echo (Nickname), Wisp (Nickname)
Veil Jumpers are a newer addition to the lore, but we know they have been founded by elves to study the anomalies breaking through in the Arlathan Forest, dedicating themselves to the study of the ancient elven artifacts and magic. An average member would likely be an Elf, though, think about where they came from: an Alienage, a closed community in a human city, or a nomadic Dalish clan? Somewhere else altogether? Would they have an Elvhen name and lineage, a Human name and a complicated history, or have they only ever had a nickname? Different backgrounds would certainly bring different expertise to the order.
That being said, Veil Jumpers most certainly welcome anyone willing to lend them a hand in their efforts. What, is this whole funny magic business suddenly a requirement? Your highly motivated Veil Ranger Dwarf certainly doesn’t think so!
Last Name: Ingellvar
Associated Specializations: Death Caller, Reaper
Name Ideas: Erathis (Male Elf), Vaella (Female Elf), Drevan (Male Human), Velka (Female Human), Ruldan (Male Dwarf), Kabethari (Quinari), Knell (Nickname)
This order of elite necromancers is yet another new face for the older fans. What we know is that, because Nevarrans prefer mummification, there are a few too many preserved corpses in the Grand Necropolis, and knowing how things can go with the undead… yeah, well, this kind of a place certainly needs some keepers. That’s where The Mourn Watch comes in.
Someone needs to make sure the spirits are not used for evil, and anything gone awry is put to rest. Anyone with the right qualities can carry this responsibility (especially if they also can geek out a little bit about it). So think about how your Ingellvar ended up in Nevarra, an infant discovered in the tomb by the undead — were they an elf from one of the clans wandering the region’s hills? Were they actually originally born into a royal family (things must have gone a little bit wrong there…)? Perhaps your Mourn Watcher is a Qunari Reaper with no recollection of their past whatsoever? What kind of a name would this person have?
Last Name: Mercar
Associated Specialization: Evoker
Name Ideas: Drakar (Male Human), Zarath (Male Elf), Solana (Female Human), Seraphis (Female Elf), Selyna (Female), Wraith (Nickname), Blaze (Nickname)
While Shadow Dragons are a newer addition to the lore, the corrupt rulers of Tevinter and their obsession with slavery is not. Your Mercar would be adopted into a military family, joining the Shadow Dragons as a result, so there once again should be no issue for a character of any background taking on the struggle against the Venatori.
They would essentially be a local to Minrathous, so think about how they might have ended up in the Tevinter Imperium. A lot of characters in the Dragon Age series had a complicated history with this corner of the world, repressed by their traditionalist family or even enslaved by a cruel magister. Do you have a personal vendetta, a former familial connection you wanted to sever? What drives your cause against the extremists in the city? Most often, this chapter of struggle has been reserved for Humans and Elves, but don’t forget about about the historical presence of Dwarves in the city, or the many refugees fleeing from the Imperium’s persistent conflict with the Qunari. The way you envision your character’s untold history is yours.
Last Name: Laidir
Associated Specializations: Saboteur, Slayer
Name Ideas: Tayana (Female Human), Ashar (Male Qunari), Basran (Male Qunari), Saar (Female Qunari), Lailani (Female Elf), Eolas (Male Elf), Lucky (Nickname), Ace (Nickname)
Many self-made personalities have joined the main character’s side in Dragon Age throughout the years, and now it’s our turn to roleplay a little bit of an adventurous treasure hunter. Your Laidir would certainly be on the good side of the struggle, considering the whole disposing of a corrupt Rivaini noble who was going to give a dangerous artifact to the Venatori, but otherwise your imagination can run wild.
If you would like, you can consider how you are connected to Rivain, the hub of the guild’s operations. This place is home to the only peaceful Qunari settlement on the continent, for example — note that Taash will our dragon hunter companion affiliated with the Lords of Fortune, and is a Qunari. The kingdom also have a peaceful relationship with the elves. Quite on theme with these races, Rivain tends to jive quite well with the whole tattoos and body piercings aesthetics (think of Isabela from Dragon Age II for a Human example). In a lot of ways, the familiar voices of authority from Thedas struggle to fully penetrate this corner of the world. While the nobility here is still Andrastian, the Chantry fails to exact much control in the area. Think of a character who would come from this true outlier of a region.
Last Name: De Riva
Associated Specializations: Duelist, Spellblade
Name Ideas: Esteban (Male Human), Felix (Male Human), Carmilla (Female Human), Zara (Female Human), Aviselan (Female Elf), Sylvis (Male Elf), Ghost (Nickname), Viper (Nickname), Scythe (Nickname)
The Crows are certainly an aesthetic: ruthless assassins, silent protectors operating from the shadows. If you are a long-time fan, you might associate Leliana with this theme, especially because of her history with the Chantry that mimics that of the Crows, but she was never part of the order — instead, remember Zevran, our self-assured elven companion from the Origins, whose former title actually was the Antivan Crow.
Regardless, it’s been a motif of the series for those operating secretly to have complicated alliances and a troubled past. You can associate it with the kind of aristocratic dance characteristic of the Crows’ home, Antiva — the plutocracy dominated by the Orlesian Chantry, with a capital that’s proud to be one of the wealthiest cities in all of Thedas. In this complicated web of alliances, it’s no surprise that our De Riva unknowingly compromised one operation while trying to assist another. If it’s the Antivan background you find attractive, you might want more traditional roots of Human or Elf races, but sometimes it’s those with unique stories and expertise to bring to the table who truly thrive in the shadows.
