All Unique Items (Locations & Class Differences) – Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Unique Items, as the name suggests, are special items encountered in Dragon Age: The Veilguard that provide powerful effects. Those effects tend to be strong enough to put them on par with Legendary Items, providing even stronger bonuses in some cases.

This guide covers all of the game’s Unique Items, where to get them, and their effects.

Similar to some Legendary Items in the game that have preset locations, Unique Items are also found in specific spots, often locked behind either a puzzle or a boss fight. There are two main types of Unique Items in Veilguard: Class-bound and General Unique Items.

Both item types can be found in the same locations, however, for Class-bound items, each Class gets a different item from the same chest.

Unlike Legendary Items that have 4 specific Traits, Unique Items can have different numbers of traits, ranging from one item to another. As a clear example, Jenny’s Belt only has one trait while Cordova’s Toothpick has 3 different Traits.

In addition to having a random number of Traits, Unique Items can’t be upgraded, unlike other items in the game! Their stats remain the same from the moment you pick them up and can’t modified by any means except for adding Enchantments.

Below, you can find an entire list of Unique Items that we currently know their whereabouts! You will also find a brief description of what they can do/in what type of build they fit, along with their acquisition method.

Each of the 6 Merchant for each Faction sell a Unique item. In order to purchase any of these, you will need to upgrade the Faction Merchant to the Max Rank of 4, requiring you to obtain 3,200 points of Faction Strength and to spend materials to upgrade them. After that, you will be able to purchase the Faction’s Unique.

It should be noted that either the Faction Merchant for the Shadow Dragons in Dock Town or the Antivan Crows in Treviso will disappear from the game forever, depending on which city you choose to save during the quest “On Blighted/Deadly Wings.” The faction of whatever city you don’t save will disappear. In order to upgrade the Shadow Dragons’ Faction merchant enough to purchase their Faction Merchants’ Unique Item, you will need to follow the steps outlined in our guide on the subject.

Due to material restrictions, it is impossible to do the same for the Antivan Crows‘ Unique Armor, so you will need to rescue Treviso if you want to get all 33 Unique Items in one playthrough.

dragon age the veilguard unique item arlathans fall
Arlathan’s Fall – All Classes Unique Medium Armor

Arlathan’s Fall is a great item for builds with high HP or the capacity to Siphon HP! The item is better on lower difficulties or on builds that require to be hit to proc effects. The item is troublesome on higher difficulties where one hit can chug away a considerable amount of HP. Besides the Immovable status effect and high Defense granted by the item, the 100%-increased Ability Damage can be beneficial for builds that aim to empower their abilities as much as possible.

dragon age the veilguard unique item plumage of the mad crow
Plumage of the Mad Crow – All Classes Unique Medium Armor

The Plumage of the Mad Crow is the perfect fit for builds focusing on the Perfect Dodge mechanic in Dragon Age: The Veilguard! The item is especially strong for Builds revolving around Necrosis, benefiting from all related Passives.

This weapon is Tevinter Knight for Mage, Shadow’s Hold for Rogue, and Imperium’s Resolve for Warrior.

The Tevinter Knight Light Armor is a powerful addition to any Mage that wishes to choose a Cold damage-based build or the Evoker specialization! The item is very strong for AoE as it easily allows you to stack Chilled on multiple foes as long as you spam Staff attacks. The main issue with the item is the low Defense it grants, which makes you vulnerable to direct hits.

Imperium’s Resolve fits perfectly for any Warrior build focusing on Physical damage! The item grants amazing Resistance to Fire, Cold, Necrotic, and Electric damage, making it a perfect tanking item. The downside of the item is the inability to deal the same types of damage, locking you into builds that only use Physical damage or status effects such as Bleeding. This item is highly recommended for the Slayer Build!

Shadow’s Hold perfectly fits any Rogue Build that specializes in using Bows! The item is especially strong for the Veil Ranger specialization as it allows accurate use of the Weakpoint mechanic and passives such as Hamstring, Death Blow, and Sniper’s Triumph.

This item is The Bargain for Mage, Helping Hand for Rogue, and Gravenstone for Warrior.

The Bargain is a perfect fit for mages that focus on the Death Caller build, preferring the way of the Mortalitasi. This item is recommended for builds that have very high Health Pools since the 250% increased cost can be quite hefty.

Helping Hand fits well for Rogue Builds that don’t wish to deal with the Weakpoint mechanic! The item allows you to always have maximum arrows, enabling you to focus on Skill Points other than those that improve arrow count. Players who intend to play the Veil Ranger specialization should not pick this item!

Gravenstone works well for Champion Warrior Builds that very frequently used Charged Ranged Attacks with the shield. This ensures that you can damage enemies near you while aiming at mages and other distant enemies in the back. It requires a specific build to make it work, but it can add a lot to that build.

dragon age the veilguard unique item extravagant plate
Extravagant Plate – All Classes Unique Armor

The Extravagant Plate is one of the best items for Builds that focus on Stagger & Takedowns! Besides hugely empowering the Stagger & Takedowns mechanics, the item is also, from our knowledge, the only item in the game granting Gold whenever you kill an enemy, making it very lucrative if you are trying to build up gold to buy everything in the game.

dragon age the veilguard unique item commanders presence
Commander’s Presence – All Classes Unique Armor

Commander’s Presence is a very situational item, suitable for an extremely Companion-focused build. The 30% damage reduction is pretty massive, but it can be made up for if your Companions are highly upgraded, as Rally Party already increases damage done by your Companions, and this doubles its effectiveness and ensures combat starts with it. For it to really work, you should equip it with other items and Skills that grand Rally the Party, and should ensure you are taking party composition into mind at all times.

There are two Unique Items in Treviso, both of which can be found the first time you enter the city by exploring and finding secrets and solving puzzles.

dragon age the veilguard unique item jennys belt 3

Jenny’s Belt is the first Unique Item most you can find in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It is particularly useful for Builds that use Afflictions and increase the duration or effect of Afflictions generally, but is otherwise not an incredibly strong Unique, as Bees! does not do much damage. Still, it is fun and flavorful, and this belt is the only way to trigger it.

You can acquire Jenny’s Belt any time after Treviso becomes free to explore. From the Heart and Central Fast Travel beacon, you can go to the northeast to reach the Dellamorte Estates. Here, you will find a puzzle that will need to be completed. This puzzle requires Lucanis’ Veil Instabilities ability to complete, but it is impossible not to have Lucanis by the time you encounter it. We’ve hidden the puzzle solution below:

jennys belt map location treviso
Dellamorte Estates – Treviso Map Location

This puzzle requires you to turn 4 statues in the correct orientation in order to unlock a grate. To begin, then, you should use Lucanis’ Veil Instabilities to access 3 levers that you need to pull to unlock the 4th statue, with the other 3 already being out in the open.

Now with access to all 4 statues, you need to use Lucanis’ ability on all the Veils Instabilities next to the statues to reveal shades pointing in specific directions and turn the statues in the direction pointed by the shades. Align the statues with the shades, and the path to Jenny’s Belt will open.

This weapon is The Point for Mage, Cordova’s Toothpick for Rogue, and The Hard Way for Warrior.

The Unique Weapon in Treviso can be obtained any time after Treviso becomes free to explore. Go to the Beacon near the Street of Coin Financials district, then head south until you reach lattices you can climb. Climb up, then jump across a gap and enter a building via a broken window. From here, interact with the bookshelf at the back of the room in order to open the secret passageway to the Unique chest.

the point map location treviso dragon age veilguard
Streets of Coin Financials – Treviso Map Location

Once there, you need to perform a small series of parkour movements, followed by breaking through a window in an abandoned building and finally revealing the secret passage blocked by the bookshelves to uncover the chest. The bookshelves can simply be interacted with to move them to the side, so no secret puzzle is involved.

The Point is a strong early game item on when combined with the Necrosis or Bleeding Afflictions. Additionally, the item is great for Death Caller Builds that can easily stack Necrosis, synergizing with the Mortalitasi Greater Passive.

Cordova’s Toothpick is one of the strongest weapons a rogue can acquire in the early game of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The item is perfect for any Afflictions-based build focused on Bleeding and Necrosis, but is useful even without builds focused on Bleed/Afflictions. This makes it a perfect fit for the Duelist Build since A Thousand Cuts applies Bleeding on each of the 16 consecutive strikes! Bleeding, however, can’t be stacked more than 10 times on a target.

The Hard Way is one of the best Warrior weapons in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The permanent Defense reduction works on any mob, including bosses, meaning it is strong enough to be used even against late-game bosses on the hardest difficulties. The only issue with the item is its overall low baseline damage in the later parts of the game, but this can be mitigated by equipping a strong Two-Handed Weapon that you can switch to after depleting enough Defense.

There are two Unique Items in Arlathan Forest, both of which are locked behind simple puzzles and difficult boss enemies.

This weapon is Stormcharger for Mage, Andruil’s Chord for Rogue, and Fade-Touched Bulwark for Warrior.

After completing Davrin‘s How to Train a Gryphon Companion quest, you’ll unlock the northern part of Arlathan Forest, the Tainted Woods. After the quest, you can return to the area in order to locate a Darkspawn-infested pit. After fighting the boss here, Entarus the Rekindled, you can climb on the various platforms in order to destroy Blight Cysts, which will eventually open the way to the Unique Chest.

Stormcharger is a gimmick Unique Item that is best used against mobs/bosses that deal Electric damage! The 50%-increased Electric resistance is huge when paired up with other items and effects that also add Electric resistance. The other effects are somewhat questionable depending on the Build you play and the difficulty. On harder difficulties, allowing yourself to be hit on purpose is detrimental. On lower difficulties, the AoE Electricity damage dealt to all nearby enemies can be huge in AoE-centric builds. The item locks you into using an Electric damage ability for its full effect, which is a huge downside.

Andruil’s Chord is a specifically tailored Unique Item for Builds focusing on Weakpoint damage! This item is rather odd as it requires extreme precision. It functions best when combined with the Veil Ranger Death Blow Greater Passive which turns Weakpoint damage into Lethal damage when used on staggered enemies. The downside of Andruil’s Chord is missing your target will most likely cause frustration due to the -90% Arrow regeneration passive.

The Fade-Touched Bulwark is a Unique Item for Warriors who prefer the Sword & Board playstyle! The item is interesting for builds focusing on AoE abilities and Detonations, as it can clump up enemies whenever a Perfect Defense occurs. The only downside is the range of the effect, as it can’t pull enemies from afar. Fade-Touched Bulwark works perfectly with the Champion specialization due to its AoE capabilities.

dragon age the veilguard unique item iron veil 1
Iron Veil – All Classes Unique Light Helm

The Iron Veil is a powerful Light Helm that is especially suitable for Necrotic-focused builds, such as Rogue’s Duelist Specialization. Aside from that, Iron Veil’s special ability is simply a nice bonus to have against multiple enemies, and can help deal with enemies quicker by damaging them while you dispatch others (though it does tend to be weak against bosses). Still, if you are looking for a Light Helm to boost Ability Damage which also has a useful secondary effect, the Iron Veil is one of the best.

After completing Davrin‘s How to Train a Gryphon Companion quest, you’ll unlock the northern part of Arlathan Forest, the Tainted Woods. The Iron Veil is on the island in the center of this area, but in order to reach it, you will need to redirect the 3 Magic Beams in order to power 3 Crystals on the island. This does require you to find nearby Magic Crystals in order to power the beams.

Once you’ve accessed the island, you will need to defeat the Guardian of Secrets boss in order to open the chest and acquire the Iron Veil.

arlathan forest unique item 2 map location
Forest Mire – Arlathan Forest

Reaching the middle aisle can be achieved by redirecting the energy beams to their corresponding focus points. Some machines generating energy beams require a Power Crystal to activate, while others need their focal points activated by other machines before they can be used.

Once the three energy beams are aligned, a bridge will appear leading to the middle aisle. However, to reach the chest, you must defeat a “Guardian of Secrets” sitting next to it.

There are two Unique Items in Dock Town, both of which can be found in chests that will unlock after completing various quests. Despite how early Dock Town can be unlocked, the Chests in the city aren’t accessible for some time.

dragon age the veilguard unique item crows armet
Crow’s Armet Unique Heavy Helm

The Crow’s Armet is a very unique item. In addition to having the decently high Defense that you’d expect from a Heavy Helm, it also quickly increases the amount of gold you acquire from enemies, and gives you Deflect (a very useful effect) when you collect that gold. By itself, it is somewhat underwhelming, but if you combine it with the Lords of Fortune’s Extravagant Plate Unique Heavy Armor, it can become quite formiddable, essentially giving you extra gold and Deflect whenever you Stagger an enemy, making it a good combo for Stagger builds.

After “The Siege of Weisshaupt” story quest, complete any Companion Quest (like Neve‘s “The Cobbled Swan Case”, Lucanis‘s “Bloodbath”, or Davrin‘s “The Cauldron”) and then return to the Lighthouse. While there, the Caretaker will inform you that someone in Dock Town wants to meet with us, starting the quest “The Black Emporium.”

dragon age the veilguard unique item guide the black emporium location

This quest will quickly lead to the Black Emporium, where you can find Xenon the Antiquarian. Xenon sells many items, including some of the Mementos that were lost in the city that was destroyed after “On Blighted/Deadly Wings”, but of note to this guide is that Xenon sells the Crow’s Armet Unique Heavy Helm for 98 Etheric Remnants.

This weapon is Archon’s Gaze for Mage, Reptile Recurve for Rogue, and Imperial Knot for Warrior.

In order to obtain the Unique Weapon given by the Candlehop, you will need to find all of the Candlehops in the city, which begin showing up after the quest “On Blighted/Deadly Wings” (regardless of if you saved Minrathous or Treviso). However, you will not be able to find all 7 Candlehops until after the Siege of Weisshaupt, as three of them are locked behind the Cobbled Swan Case, The Black Emporium, and the beginning of Out of Tune, all of which become available after that quest.

Once you’ve found all 7 Candlehops, the final one will indicate for you to return to the Shadow Dragons‘ Safehouse, where you will find a final Candlehop that leads to the chest for this Unique Weapon.

There are a total of 7 Candlehops located around Dock Town. Finding them all will spawn one more in the Shadow Dragons’ Safehouse, leading to the Unique Item. The 7 Candlehops can be found in any order, and remain available to find until the point of no return.

  • In the Shadow Dragons’ Safehouse
  • In the Temple Courtyard
  • On the Warrens, the Rooftops to the northwest of the city
  • In the Parthenius Main Docks in western Dock Town, in a building closed with a portcullis
  • In the Thread Market, in a room off to the side
  • In the Black Emporium
  • Up a ladder near the cave entrance to the Catacombs. Only opens once you start “Out Of Tune”
  • After gathering the above, head back to the Shadow Dragons’ Safehouse

Archon’s Gaze is a powerful staff that is extremely useful for Mages focused on Electric Damage and the Shocked Effect, like the Spellblade. Because this weapon enables you to hit opponents multiple times, you not only get to triple its damage (making up for its relatively low damage), but your attacks can also activate effects 3 times as well, stacking Afflictions.

The Reptile Recurve is a very powerful bow for Rogues, especially Duelists who are focused on dealing Necrotic damage and who use the bow as a sidearm more than anything. Not only does it’s effect work even if you never use it, but it is also, itself, an extremely powerful Necrosis weapon. Which the hit to Necrosis’s damage is brutal, it can be more than made up for with the increased Necrosis stacks you can apply.

The Imperial Knot is a very powerful weapon for Warriors, especially Reapers who are focused on dealing Necrotic damage. Not only does it’s effect work even if you never use it, but it is also, itself, an extremely powerful Necrosis weapon. Which the hit to Necrosis’s damage is brutal, it can be more than made up for with the increased Necrosis stacks you can apply.

dragon age the veilguard unique item magisters end
Magister’s End – Unique Light Armor

Magister’s End is a useful set of Light Armor if you have a build that can easily activate Quickened, and which relies on the high Ability damage that Light Armor grants. This means that it is best used on Rogues, who benefit the most from both Quickened and enhanced Ability Damage, and are more likely to Perfect Dodge to activate Quickened.

After the Siege of Weisshaupt and the Cobbled Swan Case, you will be able to pick the “A Hidden Hoard” quest from a bulletin board in Dock Town. Following the clues will eventually get you a key, which leads you to a previously hidden area of the Catacombs. After collecting the poisoned treasure at the end of “A Hidden Hoard”, a new quest, “Desperate in Dock Town”, will lead you to the location where Magister’s End is located, where you’ll also need to fight the demon Desperation.

In order to get Magister’s End, you will need to complete both A Hidden Hoard, and Desperate in Dock Town. To complete A Hidden Hoard, you will need to locate 3 messages in various locations in southern Dock Town, after which you’ll be led to a poisoned treasure hoard and be given the quest “Desperate in Dock Town”.

Desperate in Dock Town will lead you to a previously-collapsed opening in the Catacombs, where you can collect Magister’s End before fighting Desperation.

There are three Unique Items in the Rivain Coast, all three of which require you to complete quests in order to access. Two of these quests involve solving a puzzle, and one involves beating combat challenges.

This ring is Shard of the Void for Mage, Serpent’s Kiss for Rogue, and Crookytail’s Crest for Warrior.

To get the Shard of the Void/Serpent’s Kiss, unlock Taash as a companion and get access to the Warden Castle in Rivain Coast. Once you do so, you can visit the castle to start The Warden Vault quest — we have the thorough step-by-step walkthrough of it in our The Warden Vault Guide. Be sure to check it out if you need extra assistance!

To keep things simple, there are 3 puzzles that you have to complete. Once all three are completed, the door to the Warden Vault will open, giving you access to the Unique Ring.

Puzzle #1: Destroy the wall next to the entrance to the Castle (with Taash‘s ability). Destroy the boxes to the left and light the torches inside: Left -> Right -> Center. Exit the room, and enter the main area of the castle by climbing up the ramp. Pull the lever below the three torches there, and then the lever inside the room behind the portcullis.

Puzzle #2: Deeper inside the castle you will find a grave you can interact with, which will spawn a ghost you will need to follow to three campsites. If the quest marker is telling you to stay, ignore it — backtrack and climb up the ladder, then follow the ghost. You need to touch it at every campsite to make it go to the next. After you touch the second campsite, the ghost goes through the locked gate and you need to backtrack again to the main room with the Antaam.

Puzzle #3: Behind a Blistering Drakestone in the last part of the castle — you will need a Wisp to power the Skeleton behind the hole in the wall. Exit the castle, enter the back courtyard, and look to the wall to your right — use Taash‘s ability on the Gaatlok Barrel, then climb up the wall for the Wisp. Rush back to the Skeleton (the Wips teleports back after a short while).

The Shard of the Void is fit for any Mage Build focusing on Electric damage and the Shocking Weapons effect. Due to the nature of the item, it’s perfect for the Spellblade specialization since it heavily focuses on AoE.

The Serpent’s Kiss is a good fit for any Rogue Build focusing on Necrotic damage and the Necrotic Weapons effect! The item is perfect for the Duelist specialization, adding AoE into the mix besides its strong Single-Target damage.

Crooktail’s Crest is a decent unique for a Warrior, provided they have a method of easily reactivating Flaming Weapons, such as the Passive Skills Flames of Victory, Fiery Resolve, and Ignition. With all three of those skills, you can use Crookytail’s Crest to cause constant AoE blasts, which is highly effective against groups of enemies.

dragon age the veilguard unique item glorious ultimate
Glorious Ultimate – Unique Belt

Glorious Ultimatum is the kind of gear that you need to structure your entire build around, but can be incredibly effective if you do. With this item, you can very quickly accumulate Ultimate, which you can use to heal in place of potions. But, on higher difficulties, this can put you in a dangerous place unless you can rely on Companion Abilities to heal or health leech effects.

The chest containing Glorious Ultimatum is the reward for completing “Dead Men Tell Some Tales,” a quest you can acquire from a note in Taash’s room. This quest will see you travel to 3 different locations in the Rivain Coast in order to fight different groups of enemies (for the Spirit of Adventure!) and then investigating a Skeleton near them. After the last group of enemies, the Spirit of Adventure! will open a hidden path to the chest.

While the name and effects for this item are the same across classes, they are technically different weapons with slightly different stats.

Meredith’s Legacy, regardless of class, is an excellent weapon for any Rook who specialized in lifedrain, being especially useful for Death Callers, Reapers, and Duelists. However, you will want to be extremely specialized into this, because the removal of your actual healing Potions and Companion Abilities is difficult to deal with otherwise. This combined well with the Glorious Ultimatum Unique Belt found elsewhere in the Rivain Coast.

In order to find Meredith’s Legacy, you will need to unlock the “The Treasure of Sharksmouth Mountain,” which you can do by following the quest of the same name and using the various placards around Sharksmouth Mountain in order to solve the statue puzzle at the end of the Mountain. This requires you to figure out the identity of the Warden that each statue represents, which weapon they used, and which direction they faced in the battle.

In order to solve the puzzle at the end of Sharksmouth Moutain, you will need to find the statues throughout Sharksmouth Moutain. In brief, here are the locations of each and their messages.

Once you’ve found each of the notes, you can use those as clues to solve the Statue puzzle at the end of the mountain, which will unlock Sharksmouth Mountain’s Treasure. Here is the solution to the puzzle, applying each of the messages above.

There is one Unique Item in the Hall of Valor, which is obtained by completing 10 rounds in the Arena.

dragon age the veilguard unique item call of the hall
Call of the Hall – Unique Ring

Call of the Hall is one of the best rings in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It vastly increases both Stagger and Takedown damage, and grants you an Advantage every time you perform a Takedown. If your build relies at all on Staggering enemies, Call of the Hall should be equipped at all times.

Call of the Hall is the reward for completing 10 rounds in the Arena at the Hall of Valor. Whenever you talk to Isabella at the Hall, she will offer to set you up with a fight. The ring will be automatically given to you after completing the 10th fight.

There are two Unique Items in the Grand Necropolis, both of which require you to defeat wayward spirits around Thedas before returning to the Grand Necropolis.

dragon age the veilguard unique item pillar of the departed
Pillar of the Departed – Unique Heavy Armor

The use case for Pillar of the Departed is simple: if you rely on hitting things hard while rarely, if ever, using Abilities, like some Warriors do, then Pillar of the Departed is among the most defensive armors in the game. Especially useful for specific Champion builds, you should know immediately whether or not Pillar of the Departed is useful to you.

Pillar of the Departed is a reward for defeating The Formless One in the Grand Necropolis, which you can access by completing the Restless Spirits quest that you obtain there. After defeating The Formless One the final time, you can find the chest containing this armor in one of the side rooms that opens after the battle ends.

dragon age the veilguard unique item deathrattle
Deathrattle – Unique Medium Helm

The Deathrattle is, in all honesty, a quite underwhelming Unique item. While being able to use Precision to crit enemies more frequently and heal slightly is useful, there are usually better effects that could be applied. That said, on builds that focus on life leeching or on building Precision (which some Rogue builds do), you can get some use out of the Deathrattle.

The Deathrattle is given to you by Myrna and Vorgoth of the Mourn Watch for completing every single Haunting in the game:

  • Hauntings: From Beyond – The Lost Watcher
  • Hauntings: Shadows of Fortune – The Skeleton Crew
  • Hauntings: Restless Dreams – Nocturnix
  • Hauntings: Deathly Curiosity – Burgeoning Malice
  • Hauntings: Feeling Scared? – Scarecrow Boss Fight
  • Haunting: Deadly Playtime – Death Boss Fight

Given that some of these are some of the trickiest fights in the game, you should make sure to go in prepared.

There are two Unique Items in the Hossberg Wetlands. One will become accessible after completing every quest in the region, and the other is your reward for dispatching a specific boss.

This item is the Light of Starkhaven Amulet for Mage, the Optimist’s Span Weapon for Rogue, and Field-Commander’s Helm Heavy Helm for Warrior.

By following the Gate of Parched Hopes quest to the “Solitude’s Edge” District of the Hossberg Wetlands, you can find a Blight Cyst. Within, you will find one of the Champions of Elgar’nan (likely the final one), Amarell the Unwoven. Defeating Amarell will give you access to the Unique chest where the Blight Cyst was before.

The Light of Starkhaven is an interesting Mage accessory. It is at its best for Mages that have low Mana, because that means that the range of usefulness increases, but it can be easily used in combination with the Redouble rune or other Mana creation techniques to keep yourself topped off, always applying bonus damage. This amulet incentives you to not use Abilities, but that can be useful, especially for Spellblades.

The Optimist’s Span is very useful for Rogues that have a specific playstyle: if you find yourself using an overwhelming amount of jump attacks, then the Optimist’s Span can be one of the most devastating weapons you can find. If you don’t, then it is only a hindrance.

The Field-Commander’s Helm is a situational piece of armor, but can be incredible useful for a specific kind of Warrior build. If you often find yourself running out of Rage or struggling to build it up in order to activate abilities, than the Field-Commander’s Helm can ensure all of your Abilities are on cooldown, while increasing your damage passively. If you are often frustrated because you lack the Rage to use abilities, this is an excellent item.

This item is Hope’s Last Kiss Unique Weapon for Mage, Stillness Unique Medium Helm for Rogue, and the Wedge of Destiny (Aged 10 Years) Unique Shield for Warrior.

You can acquire this item by entering into a previously-sealed grove in the Hossberg Wetlands after completing the “Something’s Coming” quest. This quest can be completed after completing every other quest in the region. The grove and chest itself can be found in the Old Crossroads district of the Hossberg Wetlands.

Hope’s Last Kiss is a very situation weapon. By allowing you to stack an extra Arcane Bomb, you can ensure that the Bomb does a double the damage when it is activated. However, you will not be able to activate the Arcane Bomb more than once, and so you will need to dispatch especially hardy enemies without use of the Arcane Bomb after the first activation. For that reason, Hope’s Last Kiss is best used on lower difficulties.

Stillness is a very particular weapon, suitable for Rogue players who are exceptionally good at landing shots on Weakpoints. Veil Rangers who have already increased their Weakpoint damage and can consistently hit those Weakpoints without missing are the ones who will get the best use out of Stillness.

The Wedge of Destiny (Aged 10 Years) is a bit of a meme-weapon, but it can be really useful specifically for Champions who have focused on Shield Tosses, so long as you can ensure those Shield Tosses cause Afflictions on enemies. With that kind of build, you can quickly apply a status effect to an entire group of enemies.

There are 7 Unique Items in the Crossroads. Four are defended by Revenants, requiring you to find Champion Essence in the rest of Thedas to fight them; one is locked behind a combat challenge; and two are tied to Mythal’s quest (with one being missable).

dragon age the veilguard unique item the burden
The Burden – Unique Amulet

All classes can acquire The Burden, but it seems to be designed for builds focusing on Low Health effects and Enchantments, providing a considerable damage boost in exchange for the risk. This item is niche enough that we wouldn’t recommend it for the majority of the builds, especially because a 20% damage boost is relatively tame compared to other effects.

You can find The Burden by defeating the Betrayal of Felassan, a Revenant in the Crossroads. To access the Betrayal of Felassan, you will need to complete the Gate of Deep Sorrows quest, requiring you to dispatch Desmal, Bloodbound to Elgar’nan in Treviso.

image
Andraste’s Will

Andraste’s Will is an item with a clear purpose: to make builds that incorporate Burning (or Rooks that often bring Taash along) more effective. This is especially potent for Champions, who make the most use out of Fire Damage, but essentially any Rook can incorporate this Ring alongside specific weapons.

You can find Andraste’s Will by defeating the Slaughter of the Pillars, a Revenant in the Crossroads. To access the Slaughter of the Pillars, you will need to complete the Gate of Parched Hopes quest, requiring you to dispatch the Disciple-in-Ichor in the Hossberg Wetlands.

This item is the Frozen Facade Light Helm for Mage, Arainai’s Talon for Rogue, and Casket Sharp for Warrior.

You can find this Unique Item by defeating the Fall of the Protector, a Revenant in the Crossroads. To access the the Fall of the Protector, you will need to complete the Gate of Pale Reflections quest, requiring you to dispatch Amarell the Unwoven in the Hossberg Wetlands.

dragon age the veilguard unique item the last resort
The Last Resort – Unique Ring

The Last Resort is a potentially extremely powerful item, but only if you can use many abilities in quick succession without needing to Defend or Dodge against damage. As such, this is most beneficial to ranged-focused players, like Veil Rangers and Evokers, who can stack up massive damage buffs without needing to protect themselves against damage.

The Last Resort is a reward in a chest at the end of “The Heart of Corruption” quest in the Crossroads. After defeating all of the other Revenants (see the three entries above), you will be able to open the door requiring 3 Revenant Essences on Beacon Island. Continuing on will put you face to face with the Revenant Dragon. After defeating it (perhaps with Mythal’s help, if you persuaded her during the “Regrets of the Dread Wolf” quest), you will be able to access the chest containing The Last Resort.

dragon age the veilguard unique item maw of the black city
Maw of the Black City – Unique Ring

The Maw of the Black City Ring is a ring whose downside is extremely easy to make up for, if you plan correctly. While losing 20% of your health each time you use an Ability might seem substantial, it is actually very easy to mitigate and cannot kill you, and so using plenty of healing or stacking Deflect can mitigate the downside of this Unique. In exchange, you are able to always hit for massive damage with all of your Abilities, making this Ring extremely useful for Ability-focused characters.

In order to get the Maw of the Black City, you will need to go to the Heights of Athim (the third island you unlock in the Crossroads). Here, there is a tree overlooking a corrupted village. Within this tree is the chest containing the Maw of the Black City, but in order to get the tree to open, you will need to kill 50 Darkspawn in the Heights of Athim. This amount carries over each time you visit, and you will need to reload the area several times to reach the required amount.

dragon age the veilguard unique item a pale reflection
A Pale Reflection – Unique Amulet

A Pale Reflection is a fascinating piece of gear. It essentially boosts your damage against all standard enemies (which is the majority of what you fface) by 20%, and helps build your Ultimate faster, which immediately makes it a very strong Amulet. But, it can be made even stronger with certain specific skills that impact enemies at Low Health, such as the Warrior‘s Executioner’s Gaze, Rogue‘s Knock Out, and Mage‘s Elemental Executioner.

After collection all of the Wolf Statuettes and witnessing all 5 of Solas’s memories at the Lighthouse as part of the “Regrets of the Dread Wolf” quest, you will be able to find Morrigan in the Crossroads. She will speak to you about the nature of Mythal (a conversation which you should pay very close attention to for the true ending and for the Mythal’s Light Unique) before opening the way for you to travel to a fragment of Mythal.

Once there, you will be given the chance to speak to Mythal. In order to get the true ending to the game and the Mythal’s Light Unique Weapon, you will need to select the correct dialogue options. Otherwise, if you do not select those dialogue options, you will need to fight Mythal’s Retribution, a High Dragon incarnation of Mythal. Regardless of if you are able to persuade Mythal or defeat her as a Dragon, you can find A Pale Reflection in a chest that exits the boss arena.

Despite being a weapon, Mythal’s Light is essentially the same across all classes.

Mythal’s Light – Unique Weapon

Mythal’s Light is an incredibly powerful Longsword that can be leveraged by essentially any Skills or Gear that improved elemental damage. Because of this, it is best on builds that have spread out skill points, and where there isn’t a single type of elemental damage that is the focus. Beyond that, the versatility of Mythal’s Light simply lets it be used in a variety of circumstances.

Once you reach Mythal, you will need to persuade her to join you in helping to stop the gods. In order to do so, you will need to select the following dialogue options:

  • “I want your help” to start the conversation.
  • “We must stop the Blight,” then “You stood against it”
  • “We must stop the Gods,” then “They wronged you
  • Solas is helping us,” then “You respected him”

After you have selected those options, you will have both unlocked the true ending of the game, and will receive Mythal’s Light. Make sure to still jump into the arena beyond where this conversation happened so that you can grab A Pale Reflection on the way out.

There are 5 Unique Items hidden in locations that are part of Companion quests. All of these are simply hidden in the levels, but they are also all missable, as you can’t return to these locations after completing their quests. Of these, two Unique Items are hidden during Taash’s quest, two are hidden during Harding’s quest, and one is hidden during one of Emmrich’s quest. No quest location has more than one Unique Item.

This item is the Heart of Fire Weapon for Mage, Grip and Rip Bow for Rogue, and Brute Hammer for Warrior.

At the end of Taash’s Slaying the Fangscorcher Companion Quest, you will find yourself in the titular Fangscorcher’s treasure hoard, where you will find the chest containing this Unique Weapon.

Heart of Fire is a sweet and simple weapon for mages: while it’s fire resistant is nice, it’s main function is high fire damage comined with an effect that activates a Burning AoE whenever you use an Ability that uses fire, like Wall of Fire or Meteor. It does inflict you with Burning as well, but if you have a Fire-dedicated build, then you can get that extra mile out of this, so long as you remember to heal off that burning.

Grip and Rip is a very unique weapon. Will lower damage due to its 50% range reduction, it seems mostly useless, except for the fact that it fires 3 arrows at once (something that isn’t offset well enough by the +7 increase to maximum arrows). What Grip and Rip is useful for, however, is using your bow to inflict status effects onto enemies. So, if you have a method to infuse your bow with a status effect, it can be useful for builds that rely on them.

Brute Hammer couldn’t be simpler: if you find yourself against many enemies with armor, or stuggle to deal with enemies with armor, this weapon will melt that armor. It can be used against specific enemies to great effect, especially in the late game, but should be equipped as the situation demands, rather than be equipped at all times.

This item is the Coral Tip Weapon for Mage, Audacity Weapon for Rogue, and Unyielding Stone Amulet for Warrior.

At the end of Taash’s Kataranda the Stormrider Companion Quest, you will find the chest containing the Unyielding Stone after defeating the titular Kataranda.

Coral Tip is very useful weapon for Evoker Mages, especially those that are focused on increasing Cold Damage. But, for any build, the ability to apply Frozen to enemies essentially at will — Frozen being one of the more powerful status effects in the game — is incredible useful, making this a decent Unique Weapon for most builds, though not always the single best choice.

Audacity is a perfect weapon for a Rogue that never uses their bow, such as many Duelists. Because of how many attacks you make with your sword, you will find yourself out of arrows more often than not, but it is made up for by the absolutely massive damage increase for Rogues focused on that.

Unyielding Stone is a peculariar Unique Weapon, and has very specific use cases: if you find yourself being interrupted during a lot of attacks — most especially Charged Heavy Attacks — this item can prevent that. In order to make the best use out of it, you will need high Defense armor in order to survive big hits, but with this armor you can always ensure you can get the Charged Heavy Attacks off, making it useful for many Slayer builds.

Wings of Retribution – Unique Amulet

Wings of Retribution is very useful if you are a very defensive player, and is most useful for a heavily-armored Champion Rook. Being able to so easily accrue stacks of Deflect, as well as increase the amount of Deflect stacks you can have at once, more than makes up for the damage absorbtion being lessened. This means that you can try to Defend against essentially every attack, and if you miss you’ll take much less damage.

Early on in Harding’s “The Waiting Stone” quest, while you are approaching the Deep Roads for the first time, keep a look out to the right. There is some debris which blocks the view of a ladder leading down. Heading down this ladder will lead to the Wings of Retribution Unique Amulet.

Paragon’s Silent Gaze – Unique Medium Helm

Paragon’s Silent Gaze is a very powerful item in boss fights on higher difficulties, so long as you are always the one targetted by the boss. This can be especially useful for Warriors of all types, and for Duelists and Spellblades, who get in the action and stay close to enemies for a long time. Because the amount of time encounters take factors deeply into this, it is best on the highest difficulties.

After rescuing the first dwarf during Harding’s “The Heart of a Titan” Companion Quest, you will eventually come into a large room that was once a mining operation. You can climb onto a platform and then jump down onto a lower platform that leads to a narrow beam to cross, then a narrow gap to squeeze through. The chest containing the Paragon’s Silent Gaze will be to your left.

The Essence Vortex is the exact same across all 3 classes, except for the name of the class resource that it uses (Mana for Mages, Momentum for Rogues, and Rage for Warriors).

Essence Vortex – Unique Ring

The Essence Vortex is a very unique item, and suitable for a particular kind of build. It makes all of your Abilities cost another pip of your class resource, but increases the damage by a substantial amount, and heals you at the same time. As such, it is useful for builds that require an alternative method of healing, such as those that are already using Meredith’s Legacy or Glorious Ultimatum.

During the Sacrifice of Souls quest, on your second visit to Blackstone Mansion, you’ll end up in the secret passage in basement of the Mansion. While here, you will come across a puzzle. When you go to grab the wisp for the puzzle (located in the next room), you will find the chest containing the Essence Vortex Unique Ring next to the wisp.

And that is the entire list of every single Unique Item in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Now, with these items in mind, it might be a good time to start planning your build around some of these incredibly powerful, unique pieces of gear!
