Sirin the Twice-Forged Boss Guide – Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Sirin the Twice-Forged is the first Champion of Elgar’nan that you must face in your journey, and the only required Champion that you need to dispatch in order to progress the main quest. But, being a more advanced variant of an ogre, he can give some players trouble. This guide will help you get through Sirin the Twice-Forged, the first Champion of Elgar’nan in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Drops Champion Essence, which is part of the Gate of Deep Sorrows quest. This is a mandatory boss, as he drops the first Champion Essence, unlocking the way to the Dock Town and Treviso eluvians so that you can recruit Lucanis and advance Neve‘s quest.

  • Stats
    • Vulnerable to Fire
    • Resistant to Necrotic
    • Necrotic Imbued: Enemy’s hits apply Necrosis. They also gain Necrotic Resistance and immunity to Necrosis.

  • All Champions of Elgar’nan are variants of Ogres, and so learning the Ogre moveset by fighting them elsewhere can be very helpful in taking them on.
  • You can start the fight with Sirin on a strong foot: as soon as you break the Blight Cyst, you can detonate abilities and use your Ultimate to quickly burn away Sirin’s Blight Armor.
  • Sirin’s attacks are extremely predictable, but many are unblockable or have very delayed Defend timing; it is best to dodge them unless you are sure you can parry them.
  • Charged Heavy attacks are discouraged, as Sirin can easily attack while you are stuck in the animation.
  • If you are hit by any of Sirin’s attacks, you will want to keep an eye on your health; Desman inflicts Necrosis, which damages you over time. This can be instantly ended by drinking a potion.
  • Do not use Necrotic weapons, companions, or abilities against Sirin.

When it comes to fighting Sirin the Twice-Forged, you can really make the battle yours. Because Sirin begins in a Blight Cyst, and will not spawn until you break it, you can use the time to set up — make sure all of your companions are off cooldown, and you have an Ultimate charge, if possible. When you fight Sirin, it is likely before you have access to much Fire damage, but if you do have any Abilities unlocked that deal the damage type, you should equip them.

Once it is time to actually fight Sirin the Twice-Forged, you can break the Blight Cyst. As soon as you do, you should pile onto Sirin with at least one Detonation, which can be done by combining the right abilities (see our Combat Guide for more info), as well as your Ultimate.

After this, your main goal should be to outlast Sirin. His health bar is not gigantic, but it can easily outlast your supply of potions if you get hit often or let Necrosis drain you down to nothing. If you find yourself going through potions too quickly, then you should make sure to equip Harding or Bellara (or both) with their respective healing abilities (Replenish and Soothing Potion).

While dodging is advisable, if you know Sirin is about to swipe his hammer, you can prepare to Block or Parry by Defending

While many of Sirin’s attacks can be blocked, some of his most deadly attacks are unblockable, and so it is best to play it safe and focus on dodging unless you are sure you can block an attack. If you feel like you are about to be hit by an attack, it can be a good time to use one of Rook’s Abilities, since Rook is invincible while Ability animations play. Another helpful tip can be to avoid Charged Light or Charged Heavy attacks when Sirin is “idle” (when he is not currently performing an action), since those will lock you into animations that Sirin might hit you during.

Apart from that, as with most Champion of Elgar’nan fights that you’ll encounter later, the key to dealing with Sirin the Twice-Forged is simply surviving long enough to take out his massive health bar.

  • Leap: Sirin leaps into the air and then descends upon you. Dodge out of the red circle that appears.
  • Flame Hammer: Sirin smashes his hammer on the ground 1 to 3 times in a row, sending a line of flame toward his target each time. Dodge out of the red line and out of Sirin’s hammer reach.
  • Flame Summon: Sirin smashes his fist into the ground, and then creates 7 to 8 blight circles that should be dodged or run out of. This blight stays on the ground for a few seconds, which will damage you if you step into it.
  • Charge: Sirin charges you. Dodge out of the way.
  • Frenzied Strikes: Sirin smashes twice in front of him, before swiping in front of him twice. This attack is unblockable, and must be dodged, but dodging backwards once will put you out of range for the whole combo.
  • Swipe Attacks: Sirin will sweep his axe to the side. This attack can be dodged or blocked. Sirin may do this several times in a row.
  • Stomps: Sirin walks forward, stomping as he goes. Red circles appear around where his foot will land; dodge away from these.

Once you have vanquished Sirin the Twice-Forged, he will drop a Champion Essence. This particular essence is the only mandatory Champion Essence in the game, as it unlocks the way to both Dock Town and Treviso, where Neve and Lucanis are from (respectively). In order to unlock the other Essence-locked Gates in the Crossroads, you’ll need to take on the other Champions of Elgar’nan, likely starting with Dock Town’s Quyn the Sparkwielder or Treviso’s Desmal, Bloodbound to Elgar’nan.
