In the later parts of Dragon Age: The Veilguard storyline, you will be given a choice related to one of the major factions in the game — who will become the next Archon for the Shadow Dragons? You are given two choices, and the person you pick will determine how the Shadow Dragons will act moving forward (though, it will have no substantial effect on the gameplay).
In this guide, we will go over when you can make this choice, and what happens depending on the person you support for the role.
When Will the Choice Become Available
This choice only becomes available if you helped Minrathousfollowing the quest A Warden’s Best Friend (when you recruited Davrin). If you chose to help Treviso, Dorian will just automatically be chosen as the Archon.
The decision on the next Archon won’t happen until you get to the quest A Soul of a City (which you won’t see until after the events at Weisshaupt in the main storyline), and return to the Shadow Dragons‘ lair. Here you will have a conversation with Maeveris and Dorian, where they will speak to you and your allies about their respective candidacies for the role.
Before you make your choice you will get a chance to talk to Neve, The Viper, and Tarquin to hear their opinions on the matter. They will give you an idea of what the two candidates stand for, and what kind of reforms they will bring. You will be able to make your choice when you’re ready.
Results of Your Choice
It should be noted that no matter whom you pick here, it will not have any effect on the game as far as gameplay goes. You will simply gain the approval of three different Companions (listed below) and then get a different epilogue slide during the ending.
Support Dorian for Archon
The text of this choice is “Dorian will get things done.”
Dorian is very direct in taking out the opposition but does not have the political knowledge or cunning that Maeveris has. Because of this, the epilogue slide will mention that Dorian brought a lot of change to the Imperium quickly, but there is still a lot of inner turmoil.
Choosing Dorian will also get you Great Approval with the following companions:
The text of this choice is “Maevaris will inspire.”
Maevaris is a political genius and will prefer to bring about change in a slower but more steady way. The epilogue will show that this will cause the Imperium to undergo a positive change, but will also allow many Venatori Magisters to escape punishment, and leaves Tevinter weaker to external influences.

Since this choice will have no effect on your gameplay for the rest of the game, you can decide on who you truly think would be a better Archon for the Imperium!
