After getting to the end of Bellara‘s questline by defeating Anaris during the quest “Through the Shadows”, she will be faced with a choice: she has to decide whether to Free the Archive, losing the knowledge contained within to avoid the danger it could pose, or Keep the Archive, taking the time to further study the knowledge it contains.
The choice you help Bellara make will impact what Veilguard Skill and Legendary Armor she obtains, and will change her attitude going forward. In this guide, we will go over when you will make this choice, and what happens when you do.
When Do You Make the Choice
The choice will appear after you complete Through the Shadows, which is the final full quest in Bellara‘s storyline. During this quest, you will dispatch Anaris, but the resultant battle will lead to the death of Bellara‘s brother. As he dies in her arms, he gives her something to think about.
This will come to fruition after Through the Shadows ends. The next time you return to the Lighthouse, Bellara will want to speak with you about what she should do with the archive, now knowing of both its dangers and potential. During this, she will ask you to help her decide whether she should Free the Archive or Keep the Archive.
As soon as the dialogue finishes, Bellara will become resolved to follow through with whatever choice you recommended. After it ends, she will become a Hero of the Veilguard, and thus receive the associated Veilguard Skill and Legendary Armor.
Results of Your Choice
Once you make your choice, Bellara will gain a Veilguard Skill and a piece of legendary armor specifically for her. Your choice will determine which Skill and armor you get, of the following:
Free the Archive
Should you encourage Bellara to Free the Archive, she will receive the Legendary Armor Reborn Leathers, as well as the Veilguard Skill Chain Lightning.
The Reborn Leathers are extremely effective to builds that utilize a high amount of Electric Damage and the Shocked status effect. If you are playing as a SpellbladeMage or Veil RangerRogue, then you will get the most use out of this armor.
Similarly, Bellara’s Veilguard Skill Chain Lightning simply improves Bellara’s weapon attacks by increasing Electric Damage against Shocked enemies, and improving the Shocked status effect. This makes it an excellent Skill to have for Rooks who rely on Electric damage and Shocked, or who use Attack My Target often.
As well, Bellara will Free the Archive, turning her mind toward embracing the future instead of learning from the past.
Keep the Archive
Should you decide to tell Bellara to Keep the Archive, she will receive the Legendary Armor Archivist’s Mail, as well as the Veilguard Skill Lingering Strike.
If you make heavy use out of Detonations, especially if you make heavy use out of abilities that Apply Sundered (which many Rogues and some Warriors use), then you will get a lot of use out of this armor.
Bellara’s Lingering Strike Veilguard Skill improves her Replenish ability by giving it the ability to apply Weakened to enemies around you, and further improves Weakened (and therefor Replenish) by now causing Electric damage and Shocked when it is applied.
As well, Bellara will Keep the Archive, opting to focus on learning from the past — specifically the Archive — in order to make progress.
